The Quite Incredible Number List: 6201-6300

6201: Evidence of the chaotic nature of our road numbering system comes from the A6201 between the Hemsworth bypass and Barnsdale Bar in Yorkshire. It opened in 2008-9 as the A6021, with the highway authorities seemingly unaware that a road with this number already existed in Rotherham. Apparently the number was planned as A6201 all along, but a persistent typo in many of the plans meant that signs were made with the wrong number, which also appeared on maps. The error has now been corrected and patches have been placed on signs. (GuyBarry)
6202: LMS locomotive 6202 was completed in 1935 as a turbine locomotive. Following a turbine failure in 1949, it was deemed too expensive to repair and rebuilt as conventional locomotive before being scrapped after being involved in a major accident in 1952. (Big Martin)
